Marc van der MeerDr Marc van der Meer studied general economics and sociology in Tilburg, Madrid and Amsterdam. He is currently assistant professor at the Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Labour Studies (AIAS) of the University of Amsterdam. In his role as director of studies he is responsible for the education program of AIAS. He is directing the Master program in Advanced Labour Studies/ Human Resources, the Minor Arbeid and several courses on industrial relations and labour markets in cooperation with the International School for Social Sciences and Humanities, Clingendael and the national trade union museum De Burcht. As senior researcher he is involved in the area of European labour markets, innovation of collective bargaining, representativeness of interest associations, and the Spanish and Dutch models of industrial and employment relations. Articles and papers appeared both in national and international books and journals. In 1998 he defended his dissertation comparing the strategic behaviour of interest associations in the construction labour market of Amsterdam and Madrid: ‘Vaklieden en werkzekerheid: kansen en rechten van insiders en outsiders op de arbeidsmarkt in de bouwnijverheid’, Amsterdam, dissertation, Thela Thesis, 1998, 402pp. (Eng: Craftsmen and work security- chances and rights for insiders and outsiders in the labour market of the construction industry). He also published two edited volumes: ‘Wat bindt de onderneming?- de belanghebbenden aan het woord’(with Jan Peter van den Toren), Amsterdam: De Burcht/ IISG, 1999, 140 pp (Eng: What binds the enterprise? A stakeholders view), and ‘Innovatie of imitatie- CAO-verandering op ondernemingsniveau, Elsevier, (with Evert Smit), 2000, 154pp.(Eng: Innovation or imitation – change in collective agreements at the enterprise level). |
