Hein Anton van der HeijdenHein-Anton van der Heijden (1950) studied Dutch language and literature and Political Science at the University of Amsterdam. In the 1980s his research focused on public administration topics, resulting in his 1990 PhD thesis ‘Between Science and Politics. An exploration of discourse theory and political paradigms and a political-discursive analysis of administrative reorganisation and physical planning in the Netherlands 1973-1989’ (in Dutch). In the 1990s his focus shifted to environmental movements, politics and discourses. He (co) authored books on topics like 25 years of new social movements in the Netherlands (Between Imagination and power, 1992, in Dutch), the Green movement worldwide (1992), States and anti-nuclear movements (1994), environmental organisations and the EU (1994, in German). His latest book, Between Adaptation and Resistance (2000, in Dutch) is on environmental movements and environmental discourses in first, second and third world countries. His articles are published in journals like Environmental Politics, Environmental Values, International Journal of Urban and Regional Research, and Organization & Environment. He is currently involved in a research project on global environmental governance.
