Han ten Brummelhuis

Han ten Brummelhuis’ research interest is focused on South East Asia and particularly on Thailand. He worked on Thai and Dutch historical sources regarding Thailand as well as on contemporary problems. An English translation of his dissertation ("The King of Waters. J. Homan van der Heide, state-formation and the origin of modern irrigation in Siam,1902-1909") is forthcoming. In the last years his interest is in cross-cultural psychiatry, sexuality and cultural aspects of infectious diseases. He has been involved in projects related to the AIDS epidemic in Thailand and in the development of an anthropological perspective on AIDS (see Culture and Sexual Risk [1995], edited with G. H. Herdt). His present work is focused on the study of 'marriage, sexuality and mobility' and on 'civil society' in Thailand.
