Bernard KittelBernhard Kittel (1967) studied political science at the University of Vienna and at the Institute of Advanced Studies in Vienna and holds an MA in Social Science Data Analysis of the University of Essex. After appointments at the University of Vienna (Departments of Sociology and of Governance) he obtained a research grant at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne and held a junior professorship at the University of Bremen (Graduate School of Social Sciences). He joined the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at University of Amsterdam as a professor of sociology with special focus on methods of social scientific research in September 2003. His PhD thesis (1995) discussed the theory of political integration in the modern nation state. Since then, his research focused on comparative labor relations and welfare states from a socio-economic perspective. His publications include ‘National Labor Relations in Internationalized Markets’ (2001, with F. Traxler and S. Blaschke), ‘Gesetzgebung in Österreich’ (2001, with E. Tálos), ‘Politische Ökonomie’ (2003, co-edited with H. Obinger and U. Wagschal) as well as journal articles in, a.o., Comparative Political Studies, European Journal of Political Research, Journal of European Public Policy, European Journal of Industrial Relations.
