Han Entzinger

Han Entzinger has been Professor of Migration and Integration Studies at Erasmus University Rotterdam since 2001, where he also chairs the Department of Sociology. From 1986-2001 he held a chair in Multi-Ethnic Studies and, later, in General Social Sciences at Utrecht University. Previously, he worked at the Netherlands Scientific Council for Government Policy in The Hague, the International Labour Office in Geneva and at the University of Leiden, where he also studied sociology and obtained his doctorate. His research interests include international migration, integration, multiculturalism and the welfare state. Some recent books and articles: Migration between States and Markets (2004, Ed.); Grenzeloze solidariteit (2004, Ed.); Verzorgingsstaat vaar wel (2004, Ed.); Voorbij de multiculturele samenleving (2002, Ed.); ‘Changing the rules while the game is on; from multiculturalism to assimilation in the Netherlands’ (Bodemann & Yurdakul, Migration, Citizenship, Ethnos; Palgrave MacMillan, 2006) and ‘Multiculturalism revisited’ (Ben-Rafael & Sternberg Comparing modernities. Pluralism Versus Homogeneity. Essays in Homage to Shmuel N. Eisenstadt; Brill). Entzinger is Past President (1994-2002) of the ISA Research Committee on Migration and regularly acts as a consultant to the European Commission, the Council of Europe and various governments.
