Daniel Mügge

Daniel Mügge studied political science and International Relations in Berlin and Amsterdam before joining the ASSR for his PhD research in 2003. His thesis, Widen the Market, Narrow the Competition. The Emergence of Supranational Governance in EU Capital Markets, earned him a doctorate with honours in 2008. In August that year, Daniel took up the post of assistant professor in International Relations and International Political Economy.

Daniel works mainly on financial markets and their governance. His PhD research zoomed in on 20 years of capital market politics in Europe. In particular, it has explored how banks themselves have been powerful advocates of cross-border financial market integration. Beyond that, Daniel has written on the global financial services industry, with his work published in journals including New Political Economy, Journal of Common Market Studies, and Soziale Welt.
