Jasper Blom

Jasper Blom (1978) joined the ASSR September 2005 after obtaining a grant from the NWO Open Competition for Social and Behavioural Sciences. Before starting his PhD program, he worked at the Dutch Ministry of Finance at the Foreign Financial Relations directorate. There, he was amongst others desk officer for the Inter-American Development Bank and Latin America, workingfor example on the Argentinean crisis. He studied Economics at the Free University Amsterdam (MA in 2002) en Political Science at the University of Amsterdam (MA in 2002)

Jasper’s PhD research will focus on the governance of global financial markets, with a special focus on the role of the private sector. By using two case studies (the Basle II Capital Accords negotiations and the governance of international capital flows / sovereign debt crises), he will analyze possible shifting patterns of governance, from national-level public regulation towards globalized private sector self-regulation.
