Rogier van Reekum

Rogier van Reekum (1980) studied sociology at the University of Amsterdam. He conducted a pilot-study on school violence for SISWO, which later evolved into his master thesis on the emergence of violence in schools. As a junior-lecturer, he went on to give conference groups for a wide variety of courses at the department of sociology (UvA). In this time he obtained a master degree in philosophy at the UvA. His master thesis is about various strands of evolutionary thinking (in philosophy, biology and sociology). After working as a lecturer, he participated in a research project on early school leavers at the WRR (Scientific Council for Government Policy) under council member Pieter Winsemius. Rogier has published on education and the problems of evidence based policy.

At the ASSR Rogier participates in the project Citizenship, National Canons, and the Issue of Cultural Diversity. The Netherlands in International Perspective (funded by the NWO, Forum and Oxfam). In this project he researches the 'culturalization' of citizenship in the national debate in the Netherlands.

Rogier is a member of the editorial board of the online journal Krisis, Tijdschrift voor actuele filosofie (www.krisis.eu).
