Fuusje de Graaff

Fuusje de Graaff (1951) studied Social Geography at the University of Utrecht (1970-1976) and Management of Adult Education (1985-1987) at the IVABO in Amsterdam. She has been working as a staff member or coordinator in several agencies, e.g. Netherlands Centre for Foreigners, United Towns Organization in Bangladesh, National Board for Home Care Organizations, the Institute for Adult Education in Haarlem, Prozorg and her non-profit agency MUTANT. Fuusje’s domain is training and coaching professionals in intercultural communication. Since 2000 she joined the Netherlands Institute of Health Services Research (NIVEL), where she worked on several projects concerning the care for ethnic minorities in the Netherlands. Two studies focused on home care for terminally ill Turkish and Moroccan migrants and their families, financed by ZonMw.

In 2006 Fuusje de Graaff applied for funds at ZonMw to do a follow-up study entitled Communication and decision making in palliative care of Turkish and Moroccan cancer patients. As ZonMw agreed to finance this two year research project, she joined the ASSR in September 2007. The project will be executed in close cooperation with Prof. dr. S. van der Geest (UvA, FMG), dr. A. Francke (NIVEL), and dr. M. van den Muijsenbergh (Pharos and Radboud University Nijmegen). Meanwhile Fuusje continues her activities in training and coaching professionals in intercultural and interdisciplinary communication in MUTANT and Hogeschool Leiden.
