Freek Janssens
Freek (1984) studied Cultural Anthropology (MSc cum laude 2008) at the University of Amsterdam, specialising in urban anthropology and anthropology of food. He also studied Philosophy (BA cum laude 2009) at the same university, specialising in contemporary continental political philosophy.
Since February 2009 Freek is a Junior Researcher at the Amsterdam Centre for Conflict Studies and since September of the same year, he is a PhD student at the Amsterdam School for Social Science Research.
Freek's research project aims at exploring novel ways of protest and resistance to urban renewal. He focuses in particular on the aesthetic manifestations that appear in and around Queen's Market in East London, a market that faces the threat of demolition in preparation for the 2012 London Olympics.
