Frank van As

Frank van As' research will explore the meaning of socialism in ideals and practices that were constitutive of the lives of up to a third of Dutch society. This historical approach to anthropology will be based on oral history, archival research, and published propaganda. Consequently, this will allow for an explanation how the socialist ethic collapsed in the ‘60’s. Contrary to approaches that stress the emancipation of workers to be the reason for this collapse, I will consider how new ideals and practices could not be related to socialism. This led to the subliminal, yet rapid downfall of socialism in the ‘60’s.
