Alpha Amirrachman

Alpha Amirrachman joined the Amsterdam School for Social science Research (ASSR), Universiteit van Amsterdam as Ph.D student in February 2008 with Nuffic scholarship. He works on a research project on the role of education in reconciliation in Maluku, Indonesia under main supervision of Prof. Dr. Henk Schulte Nordholt.

Alpha received bachelor degree in education from Prof. Dr. Hamka Muhammadiyah University in 1999 and Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) in Education from School of Policy and Practice, Faculty of Education and Social Work, Sydney University in 2004 (Australian Development Scholarship).

He teaches at the Faculty of Education, Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University in Serang, Banten, Indonesia. He was also involved in various programs such as in AusAID Basic Education Program (BEP), Australia-Indonesia Partnership for Reconstruction and Development (AIPRD) at Indonesia’s Ministry of National Education and in research projects with the International Center for Islam and Pluralism (ICIP). Among research projects that he helped design and execute include "Open and Distance Learning for the Transformation of Islamic Society through Pesantren (Islamic boarding schools)", supported by the Ford Foundation; "Promoting Peace through Local Wisdoms in Conflict Areas in Maluku, Central Sulawesi, and West Kalimantan: A Cooperation with Local Leaders, Journalists, Youth and Religious Activists", supported by the European Commission; and "Strengthening the Understanding of Pluralism and Multiculturalism among Leaders of Pesantren in West Java", supported by AusAID.
