Sander Leusenkamp

Sander Leusenkamp (1973) studied Cultural Anthropology / Culture, Organization & Management at the Free University of Amsterdam. During this study he conducted a research on indigenous healers’ perceptions of and claims to be able to cure HIV/AIDS in the Ngamiland District in Botswana, resulting in the thesis ‘the Role of Indigenous Healers in the HIV/AIDS Epidemic in Botswana: a Chaos Theoretical Perspective’.

His current Ph.D research project concerns the emergence of national level antiretroviral (ARV) treatment policies in both Uganda and South Africa and is part of the broader research program ‘ AIDS medicines in resource-poor settings: learning from district level transformation in health cultures and care arrangements in Uganda and South Africa’. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs funds the research.
