Margaret Kyakuwa

Margaret Kyakuwa (1976) graduated in Sociology at Makerere University, Uganda (2000), and obtained her Master of philosophy in Social Anthropology (with emphasis on human ecology) at the University of Bergen, Norway (2002).  

Since 2000 she has been lecturing in the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology at Makerere University. Since 2001 she has undertaken research and consultancy work in the areas of sexual and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, gender mainstreaming, communication and social development, project planning and evaluation, sustainable rural development, water resource management and sanitation, education and criminology. She has also actively participated in HIV/AIDS community mobilization and awareness campaigns.  

Her PhD focuses on examining the social processes in providing AIDS medicines at health facilities in resource poor settings in Uganda. She aims to analyse the ART trajectory at two health centres and the strategies adopted by healthcare providers to implement chronic HIV/AIDS treatment. This study is part of the integrated program on AIDS medicines in resource poor settings (AMRP) funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
