Agnes Kotoh

Agnes M. Koto obtained her Diploma in Education from the University of Education, Winneba (1991) and Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Political Science at the University of Ghana, Legon (1997). She studied Development Studies with specialization in Population and Development at the Institute of Social Studies, The Hague and obtained a Master of Arts degree (2004).

She has been involved in teaching and research at the School of Public Health, University of Ghana since 2004. She also actively participated in collaborative research activities in public health institutions in Ghana on sexual and reproductive health related issues including family planning, abortion and maternal health during this period. Between 2000 and 2005 she was involved in HIV/AIDS awareness and control activities in school health and religious programmes involving youth and women groups as a volunteer.

Her PhD thesis is how to stimulate enrolment with Ghana’s National Health Insurance Scheme. This project is part of a multidisciplinary project: “Reaching the Poor in Ghana’s National Health Insurance Scheme”, funded by WOTRO. The aim of the study is to explore the perspectives of major stakeholders (community members, health providers and mutual health orgnisations) of Ghana’s National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and how to best they could be engaged to implement a pro-poor NHIS and stimulate enrolment.
